Butcher/Meat Cutter

Job Description Summary:    

Butcher / meat cutter need to be familiar with a variety of meat and animal products to perform their job well; they work most commonly with cuts of beef, poultry and pork. The different cuts of meat rendered must also conform to industry and health standards.  He/she is responsible for customer service, ensuring satisfaction and maintaining quality service.

Reporting Relationship(s):     Reports to the Owner/Operator


Ø  Typically, a 40-hour workweek is scheduled

Ø  Management schedules daily hours to meet seasonal demand

Ø  Can lift and move heavy boxes of produce, a minimum of 20lbs.

Ø  Meet or exceed company guidelines about hygiene, presentation and customer service

Ø  Must be capable of working independently and responsibly

Ø  Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines are required

Ø  Must be a good team worker and have the knack of coordinating work with other workers

Ø  Create and merchandise produce displays, make sure only high-quality produce is presented

Ø  Perform all other tasks that assigned, from time to time, by company management


Required:         High school diploma is required.  WHMIS – Food Handler.

Preferred:        College Certificate in Meat Cutting.


Required:         A valid provincial driver’s license and a good driving record.


Required:         Should have substantial experience in – and knowledge of – their trade.  At least 3 to 5 years of experience.

Working Conditions:

This position will be working most of the time standing in a climate-controlled, non-smoking environment.  The noise generation comes from band saws and food mixing equipment.
